This dataset is a simple table that contains a list of Maryland cities and associated counties. It may not be a complete list. This dataset is often used as a lookup table when pulled into a third party business intelligence tool. Users may also want to use the Zip Code Lookup Table and the Maryland Counties Match Tool for Data Quality dataset with this City Lookup Table in order to easily create one to many relationships (joins) in a third party business intelligence tool.

This dataset was created to help users to go between County - State Name, State-County FIPS, City, or to ZIP Code. Most importantly, this dataset was created because we shouldn't have to pay for free & public data.

Assumptions - HUD uses the most up to date Zip Code boundaries from the USPS when they post their new Quarterly data. *ZIP Codes are updated on a regular basis. Here is an example announcement from the USPS. - City data only available from 2018 onward.

The denominators used to calculate the address ratios are the ZIP code totals. When a ZIP is split by any of the other geographies, that ZIP code is duplicated in the crosswalk file.

**Example: **ZIP code 03870 is split by two different Census tracts, 33015066000 and 33015071000, which appear in the tract column. The ratio of residential addresses in the first ZIP-Tract record to the total number of residential addresses in the ZIP code is .0042 (.42%). The remaining residential addresses in that ZIP (99.58%) fall into the second ZIP-Tract record.

So, for example, if one wanted to allocate data from ZIP code 03870 to each Census tract located in that ZIP code, one would multiply the number of observations in the ZIP code by the residential ratio for each tract associated with that ZIP code.

CBSA definition

A core-based statistical area (CBSA) is a U.S. geographic area defined by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) that consists of one or more counties (or equivalents) anchored by an urban center of at least 10,000 people plus adjacent counties that are socioeconomically tied to the urban center by commuting. Areas defined on the basis of these standards applied to Census 2000 data were announced by OMB in June 2003. These standards are used to replace the definitions of metropolitan areas that were defined in 1990. The OMB released new standards based on the 2010 Census on July 15, 2015.

The Postal Code to Census file is a lookup table between the Multiple Enhanced Postal Code product (MEP) and the Canadian Census product.

The Local Deliver Unit (LDU) boundary file represents neighborhood areas associated with six digit postal code assignments. The LDU is derived from various CanMap topographic features and enhanced Canada Post data.

The boundary file is generated from point addresses with six-digit postal codes attribute assignments. The LDU Boundaries allow for a many to many relationship. For example, one postal code may be represented by more than one LDU boundary and one LDU boundary may be associated with multiple postal codes.

This boundary file has an accompanying Postal Code Lookup Table available which contains primary and other postal codes for buildings or discrete areas with multiple postal codes in the LDU file.

Note: In 2012, there was a datum change from NAD83 to WGS84.

The Postal Code Conversion File (PCCF) is a digital file which provides the correspondence between the six character code and Statistics Canada's standard geographical areas (e.g. Census divisions, Census subdivisions, Federal Electoral Districts) for which census data and other statistics are produced. To obtain the postal code conversion file or for questions, consult the DLI contact at your educational institution. The current version of the PCCF links over 787,000 postal code records, created up to the end of July 1996, to the geographical areas used in the 1991 Census and to Universal Transverse Mercator System (UTM) coordinates and latitude/longitude coordinates. This new version contains a new field called the single postal code indicator. This field will be useful in cases where a given postal code is assigned to multiple standard geographic areas. It indicates which of the standard geographic units is the most representative of the postal code. The purpose of the PCCF is to provide linkage capabilities that can be used for numerous applications, such as market research, demographic studies and geocoding applications. The file allows users to cross-reference geographic coordinates, census areas, and user-defined areas. For example, one of its key strengths lied in its capacity to integrate census data with user data. For more information on this product or some of its applications, please refer to the 'Products and Services Manual' or contact the Regional Geographer at one of our Regional Reference Centres across Canada. During the 1970s, there was an increasing demand for a large variety of statistics for small areas. To aggregate data by geographic areas, different types of address elements were examined manually, or by computer, in order to properly assign a geographical code. This assignment was complicated by the great variety of address formats on data files and spelling variations in street names. The introduction of the postal code in the mid-1970s has led to an entirely new approach. The postal code could be used as a structured representation of a range of mailing addresses. If the postal codes were matched to a standard geographic unit once, and the results retained in a lookup table, then the complex task of structuring and matching addresses could be avoided.

This is the ONS Postcode Directory (ONSPD) for the United Kingdom as at February 2023 in Comma Separated Variable (CSV) and ASCII text (TXT) formats. This file contains the multi CSVs so that postcode areas can be opened in MS Excel. To download the zip file click the Download button. The ONSPD relates both current and terminated postcodes in the United Kingdom to a range of current statutory administrative, electoral, health and other area geographies. It also links postcodes to pre-2002 health areas, 1991 Census enumeration districts for England and Wales, 2001 Census Output Areas (OA) and Super Output Areas (SOA) for England and Wales, 2001 Census OAs and SOAs for Northern Ireland and 2001 Census OAs and Data Zones (DZ) for Scotland. It now contains 2021 Census OAs and SOAs for England and Wales. It helps support the production of area based statistics from postcoded data.
