1952 Zoning layer for Anne Arundel County, MD.
Land use for long-term Rhode River study watersheds. Used ARC/INFO to trace land use patches from 1984 1:2400 b/w aerial photos. The resulting coverage was geographically referenced using control points from 1:2400 topographic maps. The photos and maps were both obtained from the Anne Arundel County Office of Planning and Zoning. Updated the coverage from 1991 ARCINFO land use coverage and 1993 color slides. Verified land use in all patches observable on the ground.
A preliminary land use map was developed with the Citizens Advisory Committee and then reviewed by the public in a series of public forums and online review. These comments were taken into consideration by the County staff and the Citizens Advisory Committee to form a recommended draft land use map. The recommended draft land use map was tested for impacts to provide a threshold for how much development the County can accommodate in the areas where it is to be directed and to provide a basis for infrastructure needs. The recommended land use map was presented to the Planning Advisory Board where residents had an opportunity to comment through a public hearing. The Planning Advisory Board’s recommendations for changes to the Land Use Plan were taken into consideration and a final Land Use Plan was forwarded to the County Council for adoption on May 3rd, 2021. The Region Plan process has a similar format and has been completed for Region 2 (Bill No. 6-24) and Region 7 (Bill No. 8-24). These areas have been updated based on the Region Plan adoptions and the outstanding regions will be appended upon approval. This planned land use map is effective as of June 23rd 2024.

Anne Arundel County, Maryland is interested in monitoring its changing land cover for planning, zoning and environmental protection purposes. The county is under increasing development pressure and needs to maintain an accurate land cover database so it may guide development in a sustainable way from both economic and environmental perspectives. The land cover layer was designed and built as a continuation of hand-digitized layers compiled in the 1990s. The current layer was completed using primarily automated methods and current high-resolution aerial imagery (6 inch resolution, leaf-off), as a comparison for cost and accuracy to the earlier automated and manually-produced datasets. This version was updated in 2020 using 4-band aerial imagery collected in the spring of 2020 by the State of Maryland.

This version was updated in 2011 using 4-band aerial imagery collected in the spring of 2011 by the State of Maryland. Areas that have undergone change in the period 2008-2011 were updated to reflect those changes, and any inconsistencies found in the 2008 dataset were corrected. An Urban Tree Canopy dataset produced in 2008 by the University of Vermont was used to provide estimates of tree canopy for each polygon, or map unit. The database is suitable for many planning and modeling purposes, but was designed and attributed for input into hydrological water runoff and nutrient loading models.
This layer shows population, household, and employment forecasts at the TAZ level. Anne Arundel County data includes the City of Annapolis. Forecasts endorsed by the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board on July 28, 2020.The mission of the Cooperative Forecasting Group (CFG) is to develop a set of population, household, and employment control totals and small area forecasts to be used for transportation planning. The data set is utilized at BMC as an input to the travel demand model and for air quality conformity testing, and is available to federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as the general public. The local planning agencies that comprise the CFG are responsible for the development of the estimates and forecasts for their own jurisdictions. While methodologies vary between jurisdictions, the forecasts are generally based on local comprehensive plans, adopted zoning maps and regulations, and an inventory of residential holding capacity. The allocation of employment to the small area and its distribution across industry sectors is based largely upon an inventory of employers across the region.
New forecast rounds are developed on an as needed basis, but are generally triggered by the update of major planning documents by the local jurisdictions, significant unforeseen demographic shifts, and the availability of small area data. The members of the CFG have the opportunity to make annual updates to the cooperative forecasts to account for unexpected changes when a complete new “round” of forecasts is not warranted. Redevelopment, or Revitalization Area (Growth Areas).Growth Tier III:Areas not planned for public sewer service (No Public Sewer Service Category in the Water and Sewer Master Plan), and Areas that are generally planned and zoned for large lot or rural residential uses.Growth Tier IV:Areas not planned for public sewer service (No Public Sewer Service Category in the Water and Sewer Master Plan), and Areas that are generally planned or zoned for land, agricultural or resource protection or preservation; and are dominated by agricultural lands, forest lands, or other natural areas; or are rural legacy areas, priority preservation areas, or areas subject to covenants, restrictions, conditions or conservation easements for the benefit of, or held by a State agency or a local jurisdiction for the purpose of conserving natural resources or agricultural land. Note that the Tier IV designation, as well as the Conservation, Parks and Open Space and Rural Land Use categories, are broader and more general designations than the Resource Sensitive Policy Area Overlay, which is based on the most recent data for specific features and is applied Countywide.
